Sylvester Williams Draft Analyst

With their first pick in the 2013 NFL draft the Broncos drafted Sylvester Williams, a defensive tackle out of North Carolina. The Broncos have really needed a defensive tackle for the longest time and they finally filled this glaring need. Vickerson has played well and they picked up Terrance Knighton in free agency, but they needed some starter material and they found it.

Williams can penetrate on passing downs and he is a good run stopper as well. He battle injuries last season, but those are now behind him. He will be an immediate starter, I think him and Knighton will start, with Wolfe slipping inside on passing downs, much like last season. One thing a lot of draft analysts say about mid to late round picks is that they add depth, but the acquisition of Williams will add depth because it pushes Vickerson to the backup role. Mitch Unrein, who was a starter for a good portion of last season, will also provide depth. He will be a more capable player in a backup role.

Von Miller and Elvis Dumervil should have had way more sacks than they did last season, but since there was zero interior pass rush, quarterbacks were able to step up in the pocket and avoid them. Williams' pass rushing ability should nullify that some. He will make it difficult for the quarterback to step up and hopefully he will be able to get some sacks himself.

Williams should turn out to be a grade "A" pick, but there is always the possibility that he wont turn out. I am looking forward to seeing him in a Broncos jersey next season. Hopefully he will be wrecking havoc on opposing offensive lines and rushers.
