Denver Broncos Kicker Preview

Matt Prater is the only kicker on the roster. He just signed a long term contract so he should be on the team for a long time. He is probably one of the best young kickers in the league, but he is still inconsistent from 40-49 yards out. He was only 5-9 from that range last season, but he only missed two field goals from anywhere else on the field last season. He has very good range, he can hit a field goal from 70 yards out a Mile High. However, Fox seems reluctant to use him from 60+ unless the team really need him to.

Prater is also a very good kick of specialist too. Unless the wind is against him or he is facing a kick returner with a lot of courage, his kick will be a touchback. That makes more of a difference than most people would like to think. It eliminates the chance that a team will score on special teams and they will have to face the Broncos stout defense.

A good kicker is very underrated, but not to this particular blogger. Prater does wonders for this team and I am glad the front office finally came to their sense and signed him to a long term contract last season.
