Denver Broncos Strong Safety Competition

The Broncos really missed Brian Dawkins last season. He would have really helped in the all around defense. Mike Adams took over for him last season and it was abysmal. He needs to be replaced as soon as possible. He could not tackle and could not cover anyone on the field. He was too slow and looked absolutely awful at some points. He should have been benched, but he never was. That was probably because there was nobody behind him that could also start.

Quenton Carter was on injured reserve all of last season, but he should be back to full speed this season. He was arrested for cheating in craps in a casino in Las Vegas, but the charges have been dropped and he was present at OTA's. Carter is talented, but he has battled injuries throughout his career. Hopefully he will be fully healthy Carter is good in run defense, but so-so in pass coverage. At any rate, he is a lot more talented than Adams.

David Bruton is a good backup who is very adept at special teams play. That is where he makes his paycheck. Bruton plays on almost all special teams packages. He is a sure tackler and a good blocker in on the punt team. He will not see the field a lot as a safety, but he is one of the best special teams players in the league.

I expect Carter to secure the starting spot during training camp. Adams is not good and he does not deserve to start. He would be OK in a reserve role though. Carter is just much more talented than him and he should be a good starter, but I think the team could improve from him and I expect them to go after a safety in next years draft.
