Denver Broncos Center Competition

JD Walton was awful last season. When he was injured Dan Koppen took over the offense looked much better. I have no idea why the Broncos did not try to resign him, but that is besides the point. Walton is not a good center. He cannot run or pass block well and I have no idea why the Broncos did not try to get a center in the draft. Maybe they think Phillip Blake will win the battle? Walton looks lost when he is out there and I think it is time to try and trade him or let him walk, but obviously the Broncos front office has different ideas. Walton needs to improve immensely in order to win over my support, but who knows, maybe he can?

Phillip Blake looked terrible at camp last season. He could not hold his own and look miserable out on the field. He injured his thump relatively early last season and was placed on injured reserve. I doubt he improves enough to take over the starting job, which is saying something considering I am not too fond of JD Walton.

Quentin Saulsberry is quick off the ball and is able to get to the second level, but when he is met on the line of scrimmage he does not move the other player and is likely to get over powered. He is only in his second year so he could improve, but most likely he wont be much more than a backup center.

JD Walton should win the starting job which is not saying much, considering his competition. I am hoping the front office comes to their senses and make getting a center a top priority in next years draft. I think Saulsberry will jump Phillip Blake on the depth chart. This means Blake will be the odd man out and will be left for the practice squad. Lets face it, the center situation on this team is grim at best. I am hoping that they decide to bring in Dan Koppen for another season.
