Memphis Advances

The Memphis Grizzlies have advanced to the Western Conference Finals for the first time in team history. They defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 4-1 in a series of close, fun-filled games. Memphis always seemed to shut down Durant in the 4th quarter and since Westbrook was out, the Thunder did not have anyone else on the team who could create their own shot. This series made it obvious how important Westbrook is to the Thunder.

Not many thought the Grizzlies would be anywhere near the Western Conference Finals after they traded Rudy Gay, but they ended up being a better team without him. Many also thought they wouldn't make it past the first round after going down 0-2 to the Clippers. They ended up winning four straight to take the series. Marc Gasol has been the man for them. He has knocked down some big shots and his  patented defense really helped the Grizzlies.

Memphis making it this far without a superstar is good for all teams without one, especially if the Spurs make it too. Memphis is proving that small market teams without a superstar can still survive and dominate in the playoffs. I think a lot of the credit has to go to head coach Lionel Hollins. After the Gay trade, he got this team to play team ball. They did not have to worry about another player taking all the shots and dominating the ball for an entire possession.

Team ball has one out so far, lets hope it can continue. I think the Grizzlies will make it to the Finals where they will beat the Indiana Pacers, yep thats right you heard me, the Pacers.

Go small market teams go!
