Top 5 Receivers in NFL History

5. Marvin Harrison
Marvin Harrison was probably the best route runner this league has ever seen. He had at least 90 catches six times in his career. He owns the record for most receptions in a season with 143. Even though he was small, 6-0 175, he was a touchdown machine, scoring double digit touchdowns nine times in his career. It helps when a Hall of Fame quarterback is throwing to you, but I think he made Manning better with his ability to easily get open.

4. Randy Moss
Moss could have been so much better, maybe even the best, but he never put in his full effort. Hewas still a touchdown machine, he caught double digit touchdowns nine times, fifteen or more four times and he owns the record for most TD's in a season with 23. In his prime, all one had to do was throw the ball up in the air and Moss would go and get it. If only he would have worked harder, he could have a number one next to his name on this list.

3. Don Houston
This man invented the wide receiver position. When he retired in 1945 he held 18 NFL receiving records and his TD record stood for 44 years. He played when the ball was only thrown forward when it was absolutely necessary. He paced the way for all other receivers to come.

2. Chris Carter
After a rough start to his career, Carter bounced back when he finally got his head on straight. He had seven straight 1,000 yard season that included five seasons with ten or more touchdowns. He had two seasons, in which he caught 122 passes. He was known for his spectacular catches and for not dropping passes. He was also a good mentor for Randy Moss when he came into the league and he taught him a couple of tricks along the way.

1. Jerry Rice
Who else would be number one? Rice was simply dominant over his 19 year career. He owned the record for most touchdown receptions in a season, until it was broken by Randy Moss in 2007, however Rice's season was still better because they only played 12 games that season. He also owned the record for most receiving yards in a season until that was broken just last year by Calvin Johnson. Not only was he great in the regular season, he put himself on another level when it came to the post season. During the 49ers four Super Bowl run in the 90's, he and Montana could not be stopped.
