Nuggets Hire Brian Shaw

After being passed over as head coach many times, Brian Shaw finally gets an opportunity to show his value in Denver. Shaw will take over a team that far exceeded expectations in the regular season, but once again floundered in the playoffs.

Shaw has been an assistant for both the Lakers and the Pacers and has done very well with young player development. That is good news for the Nuggets because they are full of young players. Fournier will be in for more minutes this season so it will be interesting to see if Shaw can help him come along in his development.

There are a couple of things that will be interesting to see how Shaw handles. One of them is the starting center situation. McGee is obviously the most talented center on the team, but is he able to lead the team as a starter? There is obviously the asthma issue, but he can still start and play short bursts of minutes. He also needs to cut Andre Miller's minutes. I believe Shaw understands that Lawson is not a shooting guard and that he should be running the point every moment he is on the court. That means Miller would have less time on the court because he is not a shooting guard either.

I believe Shaw will be a successful coach in Denver. He has experienced a myriad of different offensive schemes in his many years as a head coach and will find one that works in Denver. I am assuming he will let them run at a fast pace, but he will instill some defensive discipline in a team that could use some. I am very happy with the Shaw hiring and I believe that the Nuggets will win 50+ games next season.
