Florida Gators Tackle Competition

As of now DJ Humphries is slated to be the starting left tackle. As a freshman, he saw action in all thirteen games and started in three of them, South Carolina, LSU and Missouri. He was a consensus five star and top-20 recruit. He is extremely talented on both run and pass blocking, both will come in handy in this offense. He could work a little more on his pass blocking, but he is still the best pass blocker available at left tackle. He will need to keep the pass rushers off of Driskel, in order for him to improve his passing game. If Driskel feels comfortable in the pocket, the whole offense will be able to run smoother and put up big points.

Backing him up, Trenton Brown, a talented JUCO prospect. Brown is a huge man, he stands at 6-8 350 pounds. His feet are not quick enough to be a really good pass blocker, but that man is a bully when it comes to the run game. He will be a good backup and will likely come in for a lot in close yardage and goal line situations. I am looking forward to seeing him in action this season and hopefully he can improve his pass blocking over the seasons to become a starter.

Tyler Moore is currently listed as the starting right tackle after transferring from Nebraska. He sat out last season after deciding to transfer. Moore played left tackle while at Nebraska, but after spring camp, I do not foresee his transfer to the right side being a problem. We know he is talented because he became the first true freshman lineman to start in the season opener for the Nebraska Cornhuskers. I believe he will hold onto his starting spot into the season and become a solid rock on this offensive line.

His backup, Chaz Green, started ten games last season, but it looks as if he has been demoted because of Moore's presence. Moore is very talented, therefore I don't think Green's demotion is a reflection on his play, but I do think it may lead to a transfer. He will find himself in a good situation on another team if it does not work out in Florida.

The Gators have a lot of talent at tackle. Humphries and Moore will make a very good starting tackle tandem. They will be able to keep Driskel's jersey clean. They are both also good run blockers which is a necessity for this type of offense. They both also have very capable backups. Trenton Brown and Chaz Green are both very good. Brown needs to work on his footwork, in order to improve his pass blocking. Green might transfer, which will hurt depth, but if he stays, he will be one of the best backups in the nation.
