Things to Look for at Broncos Minicamp

The most important thing to look for at Broncos training camp should be Peyton Manning's arm strength. He played very well last season and it was probably one of his best seasons ever. He has shown that he does not need a rocket arm in order to be one of the best. However, it was obvious his arm strength was not the same as it had been in recent years. During OTA's, both Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker, mentioned that Manning's arm seemed much stronger than it did last season. If this is true and it continues through training camp, look for the passing game to be much more diverse than before. It would be filled with more deep targets for Thomas, where he excels.

The strong safety competition should also be very interesting. Mike Adams started last season, but played very poorly, especially down the stretch. Quinton Carter injured his knee during the preseason, but he is the most likely player to take Adams' starting position. Carter is very talented, but he needs to show it on the field. Quenten Jammer's name will also be thrown into the hat, but I think he is a long shot to actually start. He will see the field in specific packages, but he will not be a part of the base defense. If Carter performs well enough in many camp, there is a possibility he could be the starter heading into training camp. He is a better player than Adams, but is Fox willing to bench a veteran?

The running back competition will also be very interesting. Although Willis McGahee has been released, the running back competition will still be interesting. If Moreno does not impress, it will be interesting to see which combination of running backs replace him and McGahee. Jeremiah Johnson will be looking for playing time, as well as undrafted running back CJ Anderson, who is looking to prove himself. Ronnie Hillman is looking for playing time as well. He is very fast and shifty and could make a very good change of pace back. Montee Ball must have really impressed the coaches, in order for them to cut ties with McGahee this early. Look for Ball to get the most carries out of all the running backs throughout camp.

There are a lot more things to look for at minicamp, especially for an avid fan such as myself, but I think these are the most important. If Manning's arm strength rejuvenation is for real, the passing offense will be one of, if not the most, dangerous in the league. The Broncos cannot go into the season with Mike Adams as their starter, he will hurt them greatly. Carter need to step up and show the coaches early that he is ready to take the reins. Running back will be very interesting because if Ball beats out McGahee, there is a chance that McGahee does not make the team. All-in-all, this will be an exiting minicamp that will give way to an even more exiting training camp.
