Tim Tebow to New England

Tim Tebow signed a two year vet minimum deal with the New England Patriots and participated in minicamp right away. He is going to be the third quarterback on the depth chart, behind Tom Brady and Ryan Mallet. It remains to be seen how they use Tebow, but I am sure the Patriots have a plan, or else they would not have signed him.

I believe Tebow landed in a perfect situation in New England. Belichick will have a plan for him, to develop as a backup. I do not think New England uses any special packages with him, because there is no way that Tom Brady is coming off of the field near the goal line or in 3rd and short situations. I think Tebow will get a chance to compete for the backup job. Tom Brady will be 36 years old, he could be retiring soon. If Tebow sticks there long enough, if would have the opportunity to compete as a starter, when Brady calls it quits.

It is also important to note that they signed Tebow to a two year contract. It gives them room to trade him if he performs well in the pre-season. There is also no guaranteed money involved, which will let New England cut him if he plays poorly or does not fit in.

I think this is a great opportunity for Tebow because this team actually wants him, unlike Denver or New York. He will get a chance to improve as a QB without any pressure to become a starter right away. He should get a chance to start down the road, whether it is with New England or some other team.
