JR Smith to Opt Out

JR Smith is expected to opt out of his contract, with the New York Knicks, that was going to net him 2.9 million dollars next season. He is the reining sixth man of the year, that title should be able to net him a lot of money, but his poor performance in the playoffs could cause a lot of teams to hold off on pulling the trigger.

Smith will likely leave the Knicks because I do not think they are willing to shell out more money for him. He will have a lot of options as free agency approaches.

If he leaves the Knicks, they will need to draft or pickup a guard in free agency, especially after Jason Kidd's retirement. I don't think they will be able to replace the spark that he brings off of the bench, but they could possibly get a smarter, more consistent player.

We will get a better look of where Smith will end up when free agency draws closer. As of now it is a toss up.
