John Elway Doing it Again!?

John Elway has done almost everything right since he has arrived in Denver as Vice President of Player Personnel. In his first season, he drafted Von Miller instead of the conventional wisdom pick of Marcel Darius. He also drafted eventual starters Rahim Moore and Orlando Franklin. Although many believed Franklin would not be able to start at right tackle in the league. He also added middle linebacker Nate Irving, who could find a starting job this off season, and Quinton Carter who might find himself starting alongside Moore at safety this season. In the 2011 free agency period he re-signed Champ Bailey even though the Broncos were not contenders at the time and he could have easily left to sign with a top notch team. They also signed Willis McGahee who put in two really productive seasons for the team and he might have another one in him.

In free agency he did the impossible by wooing a Hall of Fame bound QB to come to a team that did not look like real contenders. Elway knew he had to get Manning and when he set his sights on him there was no way Manning could pass up playing in Denver. In the draft, the Broncos went after eventual starter Derrick Wolfe who will most likely be starting for years to come. They also brought in Brock Osweiler, a pick I did not necessarily agree with, but it shows that Elway is looking forward to life without Manning. Ronnie Hillman is going to be a nice 3rd down back. Malik Jackson was a surprise pick and played really well when he received the time. I look forward to him becoming a really good rotational player in the future.

This year in free agency he went after Wes Welker and got him. Getting Welker not only improves this team, but it also makes the Patriots a weaker team. Welker came really cheap at only 6 million a year for 2 years. Welker will make this passing game almost unbeatable. He also got Terrence Knighton who will fill gaps in the middle which is something this team was missing last season. There is also plenty of time left in free agency so I look for this team and super GM John Elway to make a splash one way or another,
