Broncos Positions of Need: Running Backs

The Broncos are going to need a premiere back that can carry most of the workload. McGahee is old is may not make the team. He is coming of a knee injury and he was not all that effective last season fumbling the ball 5 times. He had a good run and was a good free agent pickup 2 years ago, but I think it is time for him to leave.

Moreno showed he could be effective in his time last season. He played very well when he got the chance and the touches. However, this is the last year in his contract so their is a possibility that he could leave after this season in search for a better situation. I dont think he will get much playing time this season because of how conservative Fox is. Moreno should be a perfect Fox back, but for some reason Fox does not seem to like him or utilize him.

Hillman is coming off of an OK rookie season. He had trouble gaining playing time and touches. When he finally got the touches he showed that he needs to learn how to run between the tackles and not to bounce it outside all of the time. I think he is the reason the Broncos draft another back because he would fit perfectly into a two back system.

Who are the Broncos' options? Mike Gilislee from Florida is my favorite mid-round back in the draft. He is fast and quick, but he does not always try to run around defenders and he will initiate the contact. He carried Florida's offense last season and I think he could be just as effective in the Broncos offense.

Stepfan Taylor from Stanford would be another option in the mid-rounds. He was the definition of a workhorse back in his time at Stanford. He is not very fast, but I think of him as a Willis McGahee type. He would be a nice back to pair up with Hillman.

Eddie Lacy would be a nice first round option. Everyone saw what he did not Notre Dame's defense in the National Championship game. I think he would be a great back with his nice blend of size and speed. Drafting him would limit the touches Hillman would get because it would be obvious who the number 1 back is.

My surprise pick is Marcus Lattimore. As I said Moreno is at least here for another year. The Broncos could draft Lattimore on IR and use up Moreno, let him walk and then see what Lattimore is capable of after his knee injury.
