Thunder go to Finals For the First Time in OKC History

The Thunder were on the verge of getting swept by the Spurs two games into this series. Down 2-0 almost everyone counted out the Thunder considering how great the Spurs were playing in the playoffs. Then in the last 4 games the Thunder hit just about every single important jump shot and looked like they figured out the Spurs. The Spurs thought they had the series in their hand when they were up 2-0, but the Thunder came out playing like a different team when the series returned to Oklahoma City for games 3 and 4. When the Spurs opened up an 18 point lead everyone thought the game was locked up and that the Spurs might win the series because game 7 would be back in San Antonio. Kevin Durant and the Thunder said not so fast when they stormed back in the 3rd quarter and out scored them by 14 points to make it a game. In the 4th there were some iffy calls, but the Thunder had the momentum and nothing was stopping them form holding the spurs to under 20 points for 2 straight quarters.

Durant turned into a real superstar in this series, he was unstoppable for the last 4 games of the series. Some might say he is overrated, but he might be the new face of the NBA, taking over for LeBron James. He is a closer and we saw that when he took over games late including this last game 6. Durant played every single minute of regulation and that certainly helped the Thunder get into the finals for the first time in their Oklahoma City franchise.

They should be the heavy final favorite whether they play Boston or Miami. There is nobody on those two teams that can stop the Thunder big 3 or even their big 4 if you include Ibaka which you should. There is nobody who can guard Kevin Durant on any of those teams, he can do so much that only Durant or Westbrook can play defense on Durant. If Westbrook is not looking for his shot and he is distributing like he has been lately that is when the Thunder are deadly.

Even though I am a Nuggets fan I respect the way the Thunder have built their team. Durant, Westbrook, Harden and Ibaka didn't all get together and say "hey lets build a super team so it will be easy". They went through tough times together, a team lead by Durant and Westbrook went from having the 3rd pick in the lottery to being a 50 win team. They rolled with the punches and built their team the right way, through the draft and they are rewarded because they are all young. They are all early twenties unlike Miami where the players are almost thirty. The Thunder will have many good years together and will win multiple championships starting this year.
