Three 2nd Year Broncos Ready to Take Next Step in 2012

S Rahim Moore:

Rahim Moore struggled in his first year in the NFL, he couldn't tackle and a lot of his problems were due to his small frame. Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post says Rahim Moore looks noticeably bigger in his upper body this season. Moore played at 196 last year so if he is getting bigger it will be a big improvement. That was once of his many problems when trying to bring down players, now he needs to work on his form. If he fixes his talking issues he can easily overtake Quintin Carter for the starting position. Of course, there is really no where but up for this second year player and if he starts it will be a huge boost to the 2011 Broncos draft class. I think Moore can pull down 5 interceptions this year, mostly due to more opportunities if he starts.

TE Julius Thomas:

When you only have 1 reception for 5 yards there is no where to go but up. Thomas was already inexperienced at the position and Bronco fans should have known he wasn't going to make much of an impact his rookie season. He had no training camp and was expected to produce like a first round TE by some. He suffered a high ankle sprain early in the season and never seemed to recover fully. The Broncos did sign Joel Dreesen and Jacob Tamme this offseason, but Dreesen won't be used much in the pass offense.  Thomas will most likely come in on passing downs only, barring injury. This is not a bad thing considering he cant block and he will have Peyton Manning throwing darts to him on a regular basis. Don't get me wrong I love Tebow, but he was not a Wide Receivers best friend last year, unless you were Demaryius Thomas late in the season. This Thomas should do well with Peyton Manning and I expect between 40-50 catches for 500-600 yards and around 5 TDs. Those would be great numbers for Thomas considering the season he had last year.

RT Orlando Franklin

Franklin was drafted and put into the starting lineup when he wasn't ready. His footwork wasn't where it should have been and things got even worse when he had to protect Tebows Blind side. He was unfamiliar with the position and definitely wasn't ready to block anyones blind side. He had some games where he struggled and some games where he really shined. His real strength was run blocking, but the Broncos won't be rushing the ball as much this year with Peyton Manning at the helm. This year he gets a full offseason under his belt and won't have to protect any blindsides. Peyton Manning will be getting rid of the ball quickly which leads to less sacks and an overall better season.
