John Elway, Ozzie Newsome or Matt Millen?

Will John Elway become Ozzie Newsome or Matt Millen. John Elway has 2 drafts under his belt and he has drafted Von Miller who seems to be on track to become one of the best pass rushers in the league in a couple of years. Rahim Moore seemed to be a bust last year, but he seems to be impressing this offseason and even took some first team snaps. Quintin Carter started last year, but those players seem to be the only players that can start. Nate Irving didn't get playing time last season and the Broncos resigned Joe Mays to a 4 million dollar contract. This draft is not what bothers me. John drafted an all pro and some other starters.
In this offseason Elway pursued Peyton manning almost like Ryan McBean stalking his girlfriend. Elway made it very noticeable that he wanted a 36 year old QB who is on the tail end of his career. Elway might be able to get 3 good years out of him. If he doesn't win a Super Bowl while he is here he might go down as one of the worst free agent signings in NFL history. Considering that he gave up on a talented young QB who was 7-4 as a starter and lead this team to the playoffs for the first time in 2005 and their first win in the playoffs since that same year. He will keep improving and will most likely take over as the Jets starter at some point in the season. It could go down as one of the worst moves in Denver Bronco history.
This draft is what got me, he traded out of the first round twice missing out on a Doug Martin, a top flight running back and some other defensive tackles and we only got 1 4th rounder in return. Elway ended up picking Derek Wolfe who could be a good defensive tackle, but he doesn't have top flight potential. Then he pulled a real surprise when he drafted Brock Oswieler who has bad mechanics, doesn't that sound familiar? He didn't even win half of his games in college, he was 7-8 as a starter and it wasn't like he played in a top flight conference like the SEC. In the PAC 10 there aren't a lot of powerhouses and he should win a lot more than half of his games. Brock doesn't seem like a QB who will be able to be a super star, I think he tops out as a decent QB with the success of a Chad Pennington. He could of traded down about 10 picks and still got the same player. Elway should have waited out this year and went after a a future starter in next years QB heavy draft. Then he traded up numerous picks in the draft to select Ronnie Hillman when better running backs were on the board including Lamar Miller, who could actually start one day unlike Hillman. Some say Hillman can be like Sproles, but I don't see that in him. He just doesn't play like him and won't return Punts and Kicks, where Sproles made his name. He could possibly top out as a good 3rd down pick, but Knowson Moreno already fills that void. Omar Bolden was a great value pick, getting a second round talent in the 4th, but he was injured last year so he will be a little rusty. Elway seems to have gotten good quality players in the later rounds, picking up Phillip Blake, who may start this year and Malik Jackson who is a pass rusher.

John Elway has made some questionable moves in his 2 years in Denver, but we will have to wait 3 years to see whether they will pan out or not. He had a good draft his first year, but this years was a little iffy talent wise. He made a risky move going after Peyton Manning and getting rid of a young improving quarterback. For that move to pan out the Broncos have to win a Super Bowl when he is QB. People will say that he knows more about football than me and that is probably true, but that doesn't mean he will make a good GM. So what will it be Ozzie Newsome or Matt Millen?

  1. I think he will be in the middle and use become an average GM

  2. That is the most likely scenario however I am not a fan of this last offseason except for the signing of Tracy Porter
